James Linger Henderson

Life on the frontier in western Virginia meant living in simple, log cabin homesteads.

James Linger was the fifth son of Alexander Henderson Sr.

James followed his brothers John Glassford and Alexander Jr to settle in western Virginia in what is now Pleasants County. He lived on Willow Island at Cow Creek with his brother Alexander Jr for a while before establishing his own homestead.

James married Nancy Agnes Holiday. The couple had 12 children. One son, Inman Horner Henderson, became the Captain of the 191st West Virginia Militia during the U.S. Civil War. The company was known as the Willow Island Home Guards. Inman eventually moved to Meigs County, Ohio, where he served as a county commissioner.
